the ones where you buy in a bag? there small sugar cookies. they have wreaths bells and christmas trees. some have red sprinkles and then some are green sprinkles. i havent found them this year at all!

James Lord Pierpont wrote it and it was copyrighted under the title 'One Horse Open Sleigh' in 1857.

Reply:As I look over some of the answers I notice that people get the true spirit of Christmas confused. Christmas is not about lights and decorations, though that is the most beautiful part to look at, but rather about the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. Its the spirit of Christ that we need to hold on to all throughout the year. How he died for our sins so that we may be made clean.

To many people do the church thing only on holidays, try going every week. It takes a while but soon it becomes a habit .. then you begin to feel it and THAT'S when you have Christmas Spirit all year long

I want to get Christmas orniment size silver bells and use deep red ribbon to hang them on a Christmas tree as our wedding favors good idea, or not so much? Our wedding colors are red and silver. And the date is Dec. 16, 07.

Reply:Dear, your wedding is OVER A YEAR AWAY, and frankly, I wouldn't worry about this aspect of it at this point in time. And it's "ornament." Get what you want and don't worry so much about this inconsequential stuff, as no one remembers it anyway. You sound VERY YOUNG! The VERY YOUNG always worry about this little stuff that means nothing, and forget about the bigger picture. That is probably one reason the divorce rate is so high today among the young.

I dont really have any unfavorite xmas songs. When I am in the mood for them I listen. When I dont feel like listening I turn off the radio %26amp; put in a CD of what ever I want 2 hear. What I find funny is the numerous artistes out there who have xmas albums singing the same songs that have been out there since 1950. I mean how different ways can u sing Silent Night, for example. Same tune, same lyrics, same style. Just one artist may hold a note longer than another.

Sounds a little like "Do They Know It's Christmas" by Band Aid.

Band Aid was the precursor to Live Aid in the mid-1980's and was kind of a one off supergroup put together by Bob Geldof.

Gene Autry did the original Rudolph, Burl Ives did a couple and White Christmas is, of course , done by Bing Crosby.

Jimmy Durante does a different version of Frosty. I have a great vidoe of Bing Crosby and Mick Jagger doing a duet of the Little Drummer Boy. Anne Murray is Canadian but her Snowbird is a classic. The Temptations, I think, did a version of Rudolph as the California Raisons. Elvis did Blue Christmas and, again, not American but John Lennon's "So this is Christmas" is great.

Finally, just about every country singer from Kenny Rogers, Toby Keith to Dolly Parton have done Christmas albums.

Reply:Since a good many of the songs and carols on your list do date back more than a few centuries, and most all of the songs you've listed have been recorded literally hundreds of times, a "most famous" version is really a matter of opinion. However,

-The original version and best version of "Little Drummer Boy" was recorded and performed by the Harry Simeone Chorale.

-The original and best version of "White Christmas" was recorded by Bing Crosby, originally for the movie "Holiday Inn".

As for the rest, even though you "hate remakes", some of the best versions of Christmas songs have been remakes--it's really up to you to listen and decide what YOU like--did you know that the very first performance of "Silent Night" was played in church hundreds of years ago on a guitar, because the church's organ was broken?

For many years, every Christmas season, I try and find new recordings of my favorite carols and Christmas songs, just to enjoy the variety of the performance---I've discovered lots of new favorites and many new songs as well. Your best bet is to listen and enjoy---when you find a song that works for you, write down the artist and title then add it to your collection!

There are a few other songs that are considered Christmas songs that don't even mention Christmas, for example "Frosty The Snowman," "Let It Snow," "Winter Wonderland," and "Baby It's Cold Outside." I think the common thread is having fun in the wintertime.

Hello :)

I want to get a tattoo on my inner wrist, the outline of a bell. (like those christmas decoration bell things...thats the only sorta image i can give u!) in memory of my angel baby, Belle.

What colour/s would work? I want to get a dark yellow/golden one. But then i think it might take too long and too much pain and then might go bung later in life....

yellow might blend in w/ your skin tone too much. I'd go traditional black outline and maybe pink or pale blue for the fill in. they can put some gold highlights or white ones on it too to make it look "shiny". I'm so glad you're getting one that actually means something. Too often people do it just because everyone else is.

But i have a tempory (4week) tattoo on my wrist atm and so far its caused a bit of problem with my work, they want me to get rid of it! Ive got 2 weeks left till it fades so until then they will have to make do!

So if you can, rethink positioning.

With bells,they are different not many people have them!

Yellow ink would hardly show and most likely blend with your skin tone and it would be a waste of money!! Get black i fyou can and jsut get it shaded, if your worried about the pain then rethink getting a tattoo? A little bit of pain to a lifelong peice of artwork is really worth it!

Reply:Hi. I think thats a good idea. To be honest to only one that hurt really was on my wrist but dont let it turn you off. I have a pink bow on my wrist and had it outlned in black at the time i thought was a good idea and wasnt, so i wouldnt get the black out line. I would go for a golden yellow. As bright yellow fades quite a bit. I would say it would take 30-40mins on the wrist. If you have bad feelings why not get it on your foot by you ankle or something. Hope this helpsx

Paste cut-outs of various bells on a sheet of poster board. You can add doilies behind them, or any of a huge variety of other similar things. Have your child do the cutting, pasting, drawing of bells on construction paper, etc, and let them do the work while you simply supervise.

Christmas bells can be cut from wrapping paper, magazines, print-outs from the net, etc. Look around, thery're everywhere.

I have "Granny Camp" for my grandchildren every month. In November we took last years Christmas cards, wrapping paper and name tags and decoupage them to different shapes to hang on our outside tree. After we let it dry for a week, we met again and covered the ornaments with clear wrap (Wrinkle it ) and diamond dust. They look great when the sun bounces off them.

Be sure to coat the surface you are adhering the picture to and the back of the picture before putting it in place and then cover with an even coat. It works for me. I use a product called Modpodge.

They are called reindeer and live and work for residents of snowy Lapland in the northern parts of Scandenavia. They look like deer mixed with gazelle and can be domesticated. They are used as pack animals as well as pulling sleighs, etc. Their meat, milk and hides' products are in demand, too. Yes, Rudolph and his cousins did indeed exist.

I have 3 beautifull little girls and i dont want to dissapoint them they all enjoy ringing the bell for the salvation army.( they are just good kids they are 6, 7, and 8. We were forced to sell our home and won't recieve enough from the proceeds to pay first and last months rent on another house . We are going to have to use all of our income this month just to move. The realotor will recieve more than we do!!!! This is just not fair to my children who still believe in the magic of Christmas. if any one can help please e-mail me I will try to check it every day around 2pm (i have to go to the Library to use the internet). Im sorry if i've worded this all wrong I have never asked for aaistance of any kind before and have no idea how to go about this. God Bless

Your local salvation army branch should be able to give you information on the Toys for Tots program. it may not be much but it would be something under the tree for them. Also check with your local churches they often have food banks especially at this time of year where you may be able to get help with food for the holidays. Even though this isn't alot it maybe able to free up a little bit. Your children are also old enough to understand what the true meaning of the season is about... help the famly to focus on that.

I would like to have certain Christmas songs played every second year. For example, Little Drummer Boy could be played this year but not next. Jingle Bell Rock could be played every five years. Usually the Control system you are looking for is hydraulic on the sea bed controlled either electronically or hydraulically from the surface. You could try searching under subsea blow off prevention, off shore drilling, "cameron drilling and production systems", or "hydril".

Martin Luther started the tradition in Western Europe of decorating an evergreen and Queen Victoria, to please her German husband, had Christmas trees brought into her household too. Since people love to mimic royalty people followed suit. I don't know what to get my friends for christmas. I don't want to spend too much on them, but I want to spend a decent amount. Probably $20-$25 at the most. We're all 13.

Friend 1 likes the color orange, music, Tinker Bell (and Peter Pan/Disney) and is girly.

I cook them food i knokw they love, like chocolates, muddy buddies, brownies, all kinds of stuffs. I would like to be able to play new(ish) games and be able to multitask with many programs open. With regard to the games, I don't mind low graphics quality, as long as they will run.

So, disregarding OSes, since I do have some OS CDs anyway, which PC should I get?

I'm trying to buy a new computer for myself for Christmas, but I need some advice on which PC to get.?
playing games depends mainly on the graphics card, and a little bit on the cpu/ram.

the inspiron can come with a 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600GT which is pretty good, but of course when you select better parts the price goes up :)

The packard bell comes with a nVidia GeForce 7500 LE Graphics. I have a 7600GS (a baby step above this) and I can run most games reasonably (never on full graphics with HD lighting) but the next wave of games (starting with Crysis) run pathetically. Don't get this one.

The advent is even worse, with a 128MB Nvidia GeForce 7300 LE.

The compaq is worse again! :P You want an nvidia or ati graphics card. Intel GMA 950 Graphics will get you nowhere :)

EI system is also an intel rubbish card.

advent (last one on the list) is worse than the previous advent with a 128MB nVidia GeForce 7100GS Graphics.

So - dell looks the best, but I bet it'll blow the price out a bit.

I selected the dell, customize and buy, then selected the middle InspironTM 531 Gold (with the better processor), then customized it to have 2048 RAM (Vista runs like a dog on 1024. DEFINITELY get 2048/2gb ram) and added the best graphics card and it came out at 530. Not too far over budget?

In summary - 2gb ram as a minimum. 1gb will be a huge dissapointment.

Good graphics card = playing games for a while to come. Cheap graphics card = brand new games and future games will be ugly as sin/completely unplayable.

Well my father works for the Salvation Army as an IT Manager and I sat in on one of his meetings. I was going to volunteer this year to do some bell ringings at a local Walmart. The rules were that I couldnt say God Bless you or Jesus is our Savior or "May the Christ be with you" something I brought up lol. But it seems like television also is trying to remove Christ from Christmas. Our children are really really starting to believe in Santa Claus they may hear the story of our saviour but all they are thinking about is all the toys santa "satan" is going to bring to erase the key thanksgiving out of it. I dont see one commercial saying Lets celebrate our Savior this Christmas all I see is save 25 percent on this and that!

Also, do your Christmas ornaments have any personal meanings to you or are they just pretty? My tree topper is a teddy bear holdijng his Santa teddy, wearing an oldfashioned stocking cap. I bought it from my oldest neice when she was in High school as a Cheerleader fund raiser. My ornaments are hodge podge. Made by my sons, bought by my sons, or bought to commemorate each year. Reply:My tree has a welded wire star and my husband spend nearly two hours wiring lights in it. My ornaments are a collection of ones that people have given me. My children made some when they were younger. Some where from my first mother in law and my ex husbands family (they kept me and ditched him). My new husband and I went shopping for new ornaments and he picked them out - did a great job. My sons now that they are older picked some nature scenes and those are theirs when the move out. And I have an ornament for my first Grandson. MERRY CHRISTMAS is the prefered for me.

Looking for a christmas cartoon in the 80's on British tv with the song 'God rest ye merry gentlemen'.

It was about a short short man with a dog. And he put on socks at the start of the cartoon and sort of tumbled backwards. I think it didn't have actual voices- just music over the top maybe. Then there is this other character who is very tall who is dressed as Santa outside a department store and pretending to collect for charity but he is actually a thief and is stealing from people who give him money. They have a bell ringing contest- loudest one. Then the short mans dog growls at tall guy who gets his foot caught in the pot and can be seen in the distance while the shot is focused on the short man. It definetly has the song 'God rest ye merry gentleman' in it. At the end they all have a get together and the thief gives a teddy to a kid. For some reason I recall a red chest of drawers. I remember this cartoon every christmas and always wish i could remember what it was so i could watch it again!!! or buy it even!

Don't get me wrong. I love the old standards. But when I go to the mall or hear the piped in Christmas music, I just wonder "What would it take to get a newer musical creation ORDAINED as a 'classic' so it would not be the same old collection of songs each year?"

I'm not saying let's ditch the classics. I'm asking what NEW songs created and popularized over say, the last big revolution in music -- which I count as the innovation of Rock-N-Roll -- should we start including into our list of STANDARD Christmas songs.

And no, I'm not saying they should all be Rock-N-Roll. They can be any genre..just something a little more current than 200 years old, how 'bout, eh?

I get jazzed when I hear one of my favorites play -- "Jingle Bell Rock". Bouncey and cute. I play it on the piano and it's a crowd pleaser.

He was walking home from a Christmas service when he noticed the stars shining through the evergreens. He cut it down and decorated it with candles, because they reminded him of the stars shining through the branches. There is a very high probability that the Star on top of the tree came from this.

It is quite good, practical, and spiritually correct to place a star on the tree. There was a star shown in the heavens which lead the magi to where they would exactly locate Jesus. This star was brighter than the NOON DAY SUN! It lead them through their long journey to find the Christ Child. Jesus is the DAYSTAR, the true daystar which is to arise in the hearts of those called by His name. It was cold outside, I was waiting for shuttle to the parking garage. i stood inside the doors to the mall to stay warm and that guy with his bell asked me for a donation. I told him no. He asked why not. I told him to mind his own business using most of the cuss words I could think of.

Why do they hound us at the mall during Christmas time. I don't give them anything all year, why do they think I'll change one day when I go to the mall?

I told the Salvation Army bell ringer to "F" off at the mall. Why do they harass us?

First of all they don't stand in the doors tring to stay warm, no they stand out in the cold and are volunteering their time to make someone, who is not as spoiled as you, a nice christmas. Where were you when they were down in New Orleans after Katrina? What would you do if you got into a situation, and couldn't help yourself or your family? What would you do if you lost everything you had and no one was there to try to raise money ( quarters and nickels they collect) to try to help you? I'm looking for the name of a small city in the United States that was once mentioned in a TV listings travel feature page. It was supposedly a great "christmas town", and had some popular toy store that was a must see if visited. I know these descriptions are very vague but I don't remember the name of city and am hoping that someone may know which city I'm describing. I do remember that the name of the city was a bit lengthy as well....If anyone can list some christmasy towns in the states that they're aware of maybe it'll ring a bell.

Reply:well, there is a place called "santa claus" in Indiana. Holiday World is located there and a great place to visit.
Reply:New Bethlehem, PA. The stores are always decorated for Christmas. There is a loud speaker system in the town that plays Christmas music along the main shopping district. Not much else there.
Reply:Piegeon Forge/Gatlinburg, TN in the Smokey Mountains is a great place to visit during the Christmas season. Both towns are "tourist" towns so they have tons of shopping, hotels, craft places, entertainment venues and lots of good places to eat.

During the Christmas season they decorate the towns with tons of lights. Very nice time of year to visit.

I am sorry, but I really don't know. You see, I lost my hearing in 1995 while serving in the Navy.

But I do have a GREAT recommendation. One of my favorite CDs, was titled:

Handle's Messiah: A Soulful Celebration

Think about stars like Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Vanessa Williams, Ray Charles, and dozens more revamping Handel's Massiah to contemporary styles. BLEW ME AWAY! I highly recommend it!

I don't know the artist or title. All of the songs on the cd were by the same group with female vocals, probably more than one vocalist. There were secular and holy songs, including "deck the halls" and had a distinct sound, something a bit more modern. All I can remember was in the "fa la la" part of "deck the halls" the singer(s) paused before the last "la".

Does this ring a bell for anyone? Any leads on groups with only female vocals doing more modern-sounding christmas music?

Christmas tree ornament project?

I am looking for a project for my daughters and I to do together for our christmas tree. I did this project when I was in 4th grade, but that was many moons ago and I have forgotten exactly how it is done. It required painting a mini clay pot white, adding a decoration from napkins, sprinkling with glitter, and adding a bead inside for the bell. Does anyone know how to do this project? Reply:Your memory is very good. You basically know how to do it. I cut a piece of foam and insert to cover the hole in the pot and glue it inside. Paint the pot white and allow to dry.Remove only the TOP decorative layer from the napkin.Coat the pot with Modge Podge and apply the napkin, smoothing it on. Apply a coat of the Modge Podge over the napkin and sprinkle it with Diamond Dust ( it is coarser then glitter, and you can see the pattern through it ). Cut a length of thin ribbon at least 2 1/2 the length you'll need to attach the bell and hang the pot.Thread the bell to the center of the ribbon and knot in position. Measure how low you want to suspend the bell, and tie a double knot here.Take a piece of wire, make a small loop and knot the ends of the ribbon to it. Push this through the foam, covering the hole in the pot. Knot at the top of the pot, figure out how big a loop you need to suspend it on the tree, and make a knot at this position.NOTE: Once you pull the ribbon through the top of the pot, remove the wire.

My granddaughter (10 yrs old) and I (my friends, also) have decided that we would make Cinnamon Ornaments and dry apples to make wreaths and swags, hanging these cinnamon ornaments on them so as to make it smell like Christmas. Add glitter for sparkle and when you're through, store them all in an air-tight bag for the next year.

Hey, I think that's a good idea. I would do it to jingle bell rock. Find a really jazzy version and make a jazz/kick routine to it. If you've ever seen Deck the Halls, I would look for a costume like the one the girls wear in that. It is kind of a "Santa Claus" mini-dress. Also, keep the moves simple, your family will be more impressed with a cute dance and a few good tricks than something that is thrown together. If you need any choreography ideas, I'd love to help. I love that outfit!! It's sooo cute! That's definitely something I would wear!! I got ugg boots for christmas a couple years ago and they are the perfect thing to wear during the winter to keep your feet warm!! Don't listen to those other people, uggs are really cute and comfy! I wear dark skinny jeans and denim minis with my uggs all the time! That outfit sounds perfect for Christmas! The earrings sound adorable too!

I'm working on burning a Christmas CD. I have some songs so far. But then how come when scrooge woke up after he had been visited by the ghost of christmas yet to come he woke on christmas day?I don't get it...can you explain this to me?

You must remember that the ghostly events apparently all occurred in a single DREAM that Scrooge was having. Please notice that there is no narrative of what happened to Scrooge on those supposed days in between the visitations when he should have been awake. No mention of him going to work, etc. He went to bed on the 24th, dreamed all the spirits visited him and then upon awakening rather than realize it had all been a dream, strangely assumed that the spirits managed to cram all their visits into one night.

But it would have made for a somehwat dumb story if Scrooge had thought through the truth behind this discrepancy and then decided to just go on being mean and miserly.

I suppose it's just barely possible (but very unlikley, IMHO) Dickens simply forgot that he wrote that bit about the multiple nights. If I remember correctly, "A Christmas Carol" was published a little bit at a time over a long period. I don't know if he actually wrote it all at once and it was published in pieces or if he wrote each bit of it "on the fly" just before publication. Maybe somewhere along the way he changed his mind about the flow of the story or caught his mistake and had to explain it away with the "in just one night" comment.

Reply:The ghost of the future showed him what was going to happen if he didnt change his greedy ways. Tiny tim would die,scrooge would die, his buisness would go down the drain,ect. The book quoted the thir spirit would come on its own time. When scrooge wakes up he looks at the clock and says nine o clock (((the spirits did it all IN ONE NIGHT)))) he says.
Reply:I agree with Greenwood's answer. And it fits true to the story line.

'The Spirit of Christmas Yet To Come' arrives at Midnight Christmas Eve, bringing Scrooge to his senses as he sees his own demise if he does not turn himself around and the impending sadness amoung others, like the Cratchet family! He awakens happy to be alive and happy to have a fresh start on life.

What a wonderful classic it is! My favorite for sure!

Because of Marley's warning, Scrooge expects the visitations to occur separately, and is amazed to find that he hasn't missed Christmas, acknowledging that 'spirits can do anything.'

So, Marley was wrong... and Scrooge is fortunate to awake on Christmas Morning FILLED with the spirit if Christmas. He changes and in doing so, changes the lives of others.
