Do you feel sorry for the Salvation Army bell ringers?

They stand in front of every large store, ringing their bell from now until Christmas. Don't you feel sorry for them? And they probably get nothing for it.

Do you feel sorry for the Salvation Army bell ringers?
No. Actually they do ok. They are all volunteers from the private sector, business people, etc.

I did it one year for 2 hr a day for four days. A fair amount of cash was stuffed into that little kettle.

I like supporting the Army because 100% of donations go to help people. No administrative rip-off. About the best charity you can donate to.

Gee, thanx for thumbs down. If they can't Get volunteers they hire because they have to. (Edited later).
Reply:No, I do not feel sorry for them. Before anyone gets all huffy, let me explain. Most of these people volunteer to help the Salvation Army and I find that to be very admirable. I give whatever change I have to them. It's a good cause. If only more people were so willing to give their time.
Reply:I've volunteered to do it a couple of times - ringing the bell for a couple of hours and collecting money for people less fortunate is not a hardship.
Reply:I don't feel sorry for them because here in St. Louis there are few, if any, volunteers. Most of the bell ringers are paid for their work. they "volunteer" in exchange for money. There is no altruism in this.

Reply:My mom does. The other day she put 20 dollars in their little red bucket...
Reply:No Its a job if you look in the news paper you Will find them under help wanted , in our local paper they say they pay 7.50 an hour. I wonder how much of the money that we put in their goes to the ones in need?
Reply:I admire people who give up their free time to held those who require aid. The Salvation Army has always done very good work is collecting funds and helping the needy. This is one charity we support. I don't feel sorry for the bell ringers for they are doing what they want to do. I feel for them when the weather is bitter cold.
