We were forced to sell our home and won't recieve enough from the proceeds to pay first and last months rent on another house . We are going to have to use all of our income this month just to move. The realotor will recieve more than we do!!!! This is just not fair to my children who still believe in the magic of Christmas. if any one can help please e-mail me I will try to check it every day around 2pm (i have to go to the Library to use the internet). Im sorry if i've worded this all wrong I have never asked for aaistance of any kind before and have no idea how to go about this. God Bless

Your local salvation army branch should be able to give you information on the Toys for Tots program. it may not be much but it would be something under the tree for them. Also check with your local churches they often have food banks especially at this time of year where you may be able to get help with food for the holidays. Even though this isn't alot it maybe able to free up a little bit. Your children are also old enough to understand what the true meaning of the season is about... help the famly to focus on that.
Reply:Ask for help from the salvation army or foundations similar to this in your area. If you attend a church also ask them. You will probably have better luck in your area getting help.

Other than Frosty & Jingle Bells, can you think of any other Christmas Carols that don't mention Christmas?

Winter Wonderland... So why don't you want to mention Christmas at all? Is it offensive to people around you? If so, what's so offensive about an innocent holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus? If it's so offensive why even try to sing

"Christmas" carols at all?

What is something super cheesy I can write or draw on a silly Christmas sweater?

I'm making a really cheesy stupid sweater for my boyfriend for Christmas. Last year I put a huge reindeer on the front, it's antlers were those fuzzy straw looking things, a red bell for the nose, etc, etc. I need a new idea. What could I write on the shirt...or draw?

What Christmas song would you like to see sequenced to Christmas lights?

I sequence songs to my Christmas lights. I am looking for some songs for next year and I leave it to the Christmas fans here on YA to point me in the right direction.

I want to know your favorite Christmas Song and the Artist (I need to be able to find it on I-tunes or some other legal pay per song site).

I prefer an up tempo song, but will consider slow songs with a good melody.

What do you think about limiting the air time some Christmas songs receive?

I would like to have certain Christmas songs played every second year. For example, Little Drummer Boy could be played this year but not next. Jingle Bell Rock could be played every five years. Other songs, unfortunately too numerous to mention, could have similar limits placed on them. What do you think?

Usually the Control system you are looking for is hydraulic on the sea bed controlled either electronically or hydraulically from the surface. You could try searching under subsea blow off prevention, off shore drilling, "cameron drilling and production systems", or "hydril".

Ignore the name. Is it religious by itself?

Is a plain Christmas tree christian? With just lights and bells?
The Christmas tree is a pagan icon adopted by the Christian faith.
Reply:The Christmas tree is nothing more than a symbol used to express Christmas.

You are free to have whatever type of tree you want and do not need to be concerned what other people think!!!

Merry Christmas!!!!!
Reply:It is a pagan symbol-so popular it had to be incorporated into Chistmas as we know it. Amish, who I consider to be true Christans do without a tree-they have a very simple exchange of practical gifts study their bible the entire day and a finish with a nice meal.

American Christians are Pagans to the max-greed glitter bells and whistles Icons, idols, plastic and waste that is overwhelming!

Merry Christmas!
Reply:Yes.

In the future, the ACLU could have you thrown in prison for even saying the forbidden word: Christmas.
Reply:No, the tradition was originally pagan, to celebrate the New Year.
Reply:Christmas trees were actually originally pagan and they were adopted later on by the Christians.
Reply:I don't think so. My family is an atheist family, and has a Christmas tree ever year, along with lights outside and our traditional Norwegian Christmas bread Yulacaga. Mmmm... :D

Merry Christmas everyone. No matter what your faith is, or what you believe, enjoy your holiday season.
Reply:The tree is supposed to represent the cross that Jesus died on so yes it's Christian.
Reply:A tree, with or without lights and bells, is whatever you want it to be. Christians choose to celebrate the birth of there Lord and saviour Jesus Christ with traditional symbols, but that does not mean it has to be a symbol for anyone else.

As expected, this forum has already begun to fill with a bunch of senseless idiots who have nothing better to do than to attack other's religious beliefs. Yet I am more than certain that they would be offended if someone attacked there beliefs. This is what our country, and indeed the entire world has become.
Reply:obviously it's not in the bible, but over time Christians have associated the tree with the religious holiday of Christmas.
Reply:Christmas is a christian holiday. And you only put up a christmas tree up at christmas so yes.
Reply:its not really meant to be religious symbol its a holiday symbol a nativity set is religious

yeah i know theyve been going crazy about this on the radio
Reply:The Christmas tree is not necessarily religious in any form. Originally the act of bringing evergreens into the house during Winter was a pagan ritual. That was later adopted by the Christians. Martin Luther started the tradition in Western Europe of decorating an evergreen and Queen Victoria, to please her German husband, had Christmas trees brought into her household too. Since people love to mimic royalty people followed suit. The Catholic church was opposed to them because they came from pagan and Protestant origins but eventually even the Catholic church relented and trees festoon Catholic churchs all over the Western world.

Whats Is the Answer To This HARD Christmas Riddle?

You will know that I am comingFrom the jingle of my bell,But exactly who I am is not an easy thing to tell.

Children, they adore mefor they find me jolly, but I do not see them when the halls are decked with holly.

My job often leaves me frozen,I am a man that all should know,But I do not do business in times of sleet or ice or snow.

I travel much on business,But no reindeer haul me around,I do all my traveling firmly on the ground.

I love the time of Christmas,But that's not my vocational season,And I assure that is because of a sound economic reason.

What should I get my friends for christmas?

I don't know what to get my friends for christmas. I don't want to spend too much on them, but I want to spend a decent amount. Probably $20-$25 at the most. We're all 13.

Friend 1 likes the color orange, music, Tinker Bell (and Peter Pan/Disney) and is girly.

Friend 2 likes Pirates of the Carribean/skulls, anime, manga, and music.

And I might get something for friend 3:

Friend 3 likes pink, girly, music.

I was thinking of getting her a gift card to Bath and Bodyworks...

Friends 1 and 2 each have an iPod. iTunes gift cards are an option, but I really don't know. Can you help me out? Thanks to everyone!

What should I get my friends for christmas?
Sorry can not think of anything
Reply:i would take them to see enchanted before the mall closes for christmass. it was really great movie and actually pretty girly also.it is a disney so u don't have to worry about it being unaproprerit.
Reply:When buying a meaningful gift for a person, the best thing to do, is to think about that person for a few moments. What does he or she like to do in life? What are their hobbies? What are their interests? Do they have a vehicle? Do they have a pet? Then buy something pertaining to one of these subjects, or some that you have thought up, and you will be sure to please them.

Best wishes,

Hope
Reply:Yeah, $20 is good. As long as you can afford it. :) Don't go overboard.

Friend 1 - An orange tinkerbell hoodie? Haha.

Friend 2 - At World's End (3rd Pirates movie) is coming out on DVD December 4th...buy her that.

Friend 3 - I think the Bath %26amp; Bodyworks gift card is a great idea. Stay with that.

Hope I helped. =)
Reply:Suggestion: I was in Boscov's yesterday and they were selling these little purses with a french manicure set inside them. Only $12.00. I am planning to get a couple for the girly girls in my family.
Reply:that's a easy question to answer. To make it easier on you. Get gift cards for all three of them.

They would be glad they received them from you
Reply:one thing i did... and still do for some select friends is survival kits. they only last about a day though...they love them so much! I cook them food i knokw they love, like chocolates, muddy buddies, brownies, all kinds of stuffs. I also put things in there that the individual likes: maybe guitar picks, lipsmacker stuffs, little things at the store you know they'd love. good luck!
Reply:Just get at least two gift which are close to those categories...and something that you have no doubt that they would like

Is it Okay to Wish Everyone Here a Merry Christmas?

Well, I had to think of some way to turn my Holiday Greetings into a question! I want to wish everyone on these forums the happiest of times this Christmas, and hope that you take the time to thank God for the blessings you have.

Take time for your families, take time for your friends, and try to make a few new friends, too. Remember the Poor and give generously to that guy or gal ringing that bell outside the doors of a department store!

Whether Republican or Democrat or Independent, whether American or in some foreign land, Merry Christmas!

Is it Okay to Wish Everyone Here a Merry Christmas?
Sure, as long as I can wish you a Happy Yule!

I didn't stay up all night among friends and loved ones to observe the longest night of the year as some of my friends did, but I'm definitely counting my blessings on this fine Yule morning. Though things are not as good as I'd like with my adult daughter and her partner, things are going well in my life. My family is healthy and employed. We're getting together this weekend to look over the last year--how things could be improved, how things went well, what we're looking for in the coming year.

I have an abundance of love in my life right now things look bright for the coming year.

Thank you for the kind wishes,

Blessings to you and yours.

Reply:And a Very Merry Christmas to you and your family as well.
Reply:Some of the Jews and Muslims might be offended, and you just know the Democrats are all against it...they have a problem with the religious nature of it.
Reply:Merry Christmas to you as well! :-)
Reply:You hardly know me, but have wished me a merry Christmas. You thus show the true spirit of a Christian, in its best sense of love. So I wish you the very best this season and next year.

Christmas Joke?

A Blonde In A Snow Storm

A blonde got lost in her car in a snow storm.

She remembered that her dad had once told her, "If you ever get stuck in a snow storm, wait for a snow plow and follow it."

Pretty soon a snow plow came by, and she started to follow it.

She followed the plow for about forty-five minutes.

Finally the driver of the truck got out and asked her what she was doing.

She explained that her dad had told her if she ever got stuck in the snow, to follow a plow.

The driver nodded and said, "Well, I'm done with Wal-Mart; now you can follow me over to K-Mart."

I'm trying to buy a new computer for myself for Christmas, but I need some advice on which PC to get.?

Those of you who know me will know that I know almost nothing about hardware. Therefore, it has me worried when I am to pick my own PC for Christmas. I have compiled a list of possible PCs, and here they are:

---

Dell Inspiron 531: http://tinyurl.com/ytuh8k

Packard Bell 2411: http://tinyurl.com/ysvksd

Advent T9508: http://tinyurl.com/23flb5

Packard Bell 2411 (different monitor): http://tinyurl.com/29t674

Compaq SR5027: http://tinyurl.com/yqvwcj

EI System 307 (Big Monitor is a plus): http://tinyurl.com/2fh6zv

Advent T9408: http://tinyurl.com/2bwgyr

---

... which should I get?

I would like to be able to play new(ish) games and be able to multitask with many programs open. With regard to the games, I don't mind low graphics quality, as long as they will run.

So, disregarding OSes, since I do have some OS CDs anyway, which PC should I get?

I'm trying to buy a new computer for myself for Christmas, but I need some advice on which PC to get.?
playing games depends mainly on the graphics card, and a little bit on the cpu/ram.

the inspiron can come with a 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600GT which is pretty good, but of course when you select better parts the price goes up :)

The packard bell comes with a nVidia GeForce 7500 LE Graphics. I have a 7600GS (a baby step above this) and I can run most games reasonably (never on full graphics with HD lighting) but the next wave of games (starting with Crysis) run pathetically. Don't get this one.

The advent is even worse, with a 128MB Nvidia GeForce 7300 LE.

The compaq is worse again! :P You want an nvidia or ati graphics card. Intel GMA 950 Graphics will get you nowhere :)

EI system is also an intel rubbish card.

advent (last one on the list) is worse than the previous advent with a 128MB nVidia GeForce 7100GS Graphics.

So - dell looks the best, but I bet it'll blow the price out a bit.

I selected the dell, customize and buy, then selected the middle InspironTM 531 Gold (with the better processor), then customized it to have 2048 RAM (Vista runs like a dog on 1024. DEFINITELY get 2048/2gb ram) and added the best graphics card and it came out at 530. Not too far over budget?

In summary - 2gb ram as a minimum. 1gb will be a huge dissapointment.

Good graphics card = playing games for a while to come. Cheap graphics card = brand new games and future games will be ugly as sin/completely unplayable.

What's the name of this christmas movie?

There's a female elf who tries to save Christmas from an evil witch that lives in the bottom of a giant mailbox. There's more than one. Ring a bell?

Is $25 too much to pay for a Raja Bell autographed photo?

Raja Bell, the basketball player on the Phoenix Suns. I was thinking about getting it for my girlfriend for Christmas.

Is $25 too much to pay for a Raja Bell autographed photo?
DOES SHE WANT IT OR ARE YOU BUYING IT FOR YOURSELF?
Reply:SINCE I DID GET YOU RIGHT, U SHOULD HAVE GIVEN ME MORE POINTS. Report It

Reply:Yes, about $25 too much. J/K. Really, try going on eBay and find a cheaper officially-licensed autographed basketball card (Upper Deck, Skybox, Topps, etc).
Reply:yes way too much!
Reply:Uhhh does she like basketball stuff and yes honestly it is his card isn't worth 50 Cents so why should his autograph be even more check a Beckett if your not sure

Raja Bell is good but he is no super Starr big one anyways i could get u shaq or kobe one for that much...
Reply:Absolutely not. An AUTHENTIC Raja Bell 8x10 should be sold from $15-$25. It is a fair price.
Reply:Simply put.......YES!
Reply:If it's a gift for your girlfriend, is cost important? If she likes Raja enough, and you've gotten it, just think of how many man points you've earned with her for 2007! Personally, if I were buying it for myself I wouldn't spend anymore then $9.99. But again if it has intrinsic value for your girlfriend $25 isn't a bad deal at all. As an extra nice touch make sure and have the photo professionally matted and framed.

Why is the media trying to remove the true meaning of Christmas?

Well my father works for the Salvation Army as an IT Manager and I sat in on one of his meetings. I was going to volunteer this year to do some bell ringings at a local Walmart. The rules were that I couldnt say God Bless you or Jesus is our Savior or "May the Christ be with you" something I brought up lol. But it seems like television also is trying to remove Christ from Christmas. Our children are really really starting to believe in Santa Claus they may hear the story of our saviour but all they are thinking about is all the toys santa "satan" is going to bring to erase the key thanksgiving out of it. I dont see one commercial saying Lets celebrate our Savior this Christmas all I see is save 25 percent on this and that!

If you remove Christ from Christmas you have MAS

all that means is your Missing A Savior

God Bless all of you who dont forget the true meaning of why we celebrate.

Why is the media trying to remove the true meaning of Christmas?
$$$$
Reply:Sorry what has an IT guy at the Salvation Army have to do with the 'media"?
Reply:The only thing Christian about Christmas is the name. Everything, including celebrating the birth of a "cruficied savior born of a virgin (Mithra)" is pagan.
Reply:I don't know, but the History Channel last night proved just what Christmas is, Pagan Holiday.

The History Channel, last night vindicated every word the Jehovah's Witnesses have said about Christmas being a Pagan Holiday.

How the Date was selected, the Tree, Ornaments for the tree, how Rome got into it, how it spread throughout the earth, how it became nothing but greed by business. History Channel is really telling you the Truth about Christmas, most certainly since Christmas is a Pagan Holiday, Jesus would not be involved in it.
Reply:christmas is a rebranding of a preexisting roman holiday, saturnalia, when christianity took over the roman empire. christ actually wasn't born around this time. it has more to do with the winter solstice. that's the real meaning of christmas, if you want to talk historical accuracy

so my question is:

"why is the christian trying to remove the true meaning of Saturnalia?"
Reply:Excuse me ! But Jesus is NOT the reason for the season! It is Tammuz! It is his birthday and not the birthday of Christ! Jesus was born on Passover! Passover happens between the end of March and the beginning of April. What we call 'Christ's mass' is in reality the mass of Tammuz! It was being celebrated for about 2000 years before the birth of Christ. Around the 1200 th century the catholic church took all of the pagan 'holy days' along with their 'holy' sites and their 'god's' and made the 'christian' by giving them 'christian' names. The birthday of Tammuz became the birthday of Christ, the god Apollo became Peter, etc.
Reply:You do realize that Christmas is NOT the only holiday that is celebrated this time of year don't you? Or do you think that it's the only one that matters. If that's the case...how very narrow minded of you.

No one is trying to take YOUR Christ out of YOUR Christmas.

1) I said IF, you must have missed that part.

2) I acknowledge that everyone believes something different than I do, therefore, NOT narrowminded.

3) You asked why you couldn't say those things and why the media doesn't say those things......because of the other holidays and beliefs. They have to remain impartial for all their viewers/readers.
Reply:Christ never really had anything to do with this holiday in the first place. It was around long before he supposedly was.

Not too serious questions here but: What do you have on top of your Christmas Tree?

Also, do your Christmas ornaments have any personal meanings to you or are they just pretty? My tree topper is a teddy bear holdijng his Santa teddy, wearing an oldfashioned stocking cap. I bought it from my oldest neice when she was in High school as a Cheerleader fund raiser. My ornaments are hodge podge. Made by my sons, bought by my sons, or bought to commemorate each year. Also a small green bell made entirely out of beads by my mother. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas or if you prefer a Happy Holidays!

Not too serious questions here but: What do you have on top of your Christmas Tree?
Well I'm forced to take the tree down, because the only thing at the top of it is my cat! She's such a brat!
Reply:My tree has a welded wire star and my husband spend nearly two hours wiring lights in it. My ornaments are a collection of ones that people have given me. My children made some when they were younger. Some where from my first mother in law and my ex husbands family (they kept me and ditched him). My new husband and I went shopping for new ornaments and he picked them out - did a great job. My sons now that they are older picked some nature scenes and those are theirs when the move out. And I have an ornament for my first Grandson. MERRY CHRISTMAS is the prefered for me.
Reply:Our topper is an angel. We're traditionalists.

I have one ornament that is a mouse dressed as Santa. I have had it since I was a small child.
Reply:We have this bearded Father Christmas looking thing. It's kind of creepy. I'm not sentimental so I just think they're pretty. Not surprisingly, people gave us a lot of ornaments that are supposed to be sentimental. They're the ugliest ones. My favorites are the clear glass or metallic ones because obviously they reflect the lights the best.
Reply:i always try to have a themed Christmas tree. but no matter the theme, I have an angel on top.

one year, i had all purple and silver ornaments. another all red and green. one year all crystal glass ornaments with colored lights....

this year my tree is gold and glass.

my mom's tree sounds like yours.... she has ornaments we made when we were kids. ornaments friends gave her, ornaments from this or that....
Reply:A big blue bow. And it is just that was what we did when we first got married because she was still in grad school and it was cheaper. We just never switched it out.
Reply:an ancient angel.
Reply:a 5 pointed star that changes from blue to green..egaddss!!!!
Reply:I have an Angel. She is dressed in Gold. I have gold and red bows as well as gold and red bulbs.I have gold beads instead of garland.
Reply:I've just got the little red ribbons that came on my Yule tree (it's a potted pine in a 2 gallon container) on the top of my tree. I can't find my ornaments - I packed them away really well when my boyfriend and I got our loft this summer, and I haven't found them yet, *sob*.

Merry Christmas to you.

Reply:A lighted STAR, reflecting the STAR appearing on Jesus birth guiding the three kings to Him in Bethlehem.

My tree is lighted, ornaments hanging, and the nativity scene placed under the tree (was my mom's).

May you celebrate Jesus birthday with rebirth of your faith.

MERRY CHRISTMAS %26amp; HAPPY NEW YEAR!

GOD BLESS! AMEN! SHALOM!
Reply:I have a beautiful ceramic angel, despite not believing in them. I also have a dog ornament that looks like my dog, a cat with a sign that says "Bah Humbug", a cute snowman, some elf heads my mom crocheted, and this antique Rudolph, among other baubles.
Reply:a star on top

we have a fibre optic tree .... we use the same one each year

but besides the pre set ornaments on it

there is a little crystal teddy and a little crystal angel that were given to my children a few years back

((((((Debra))))))

edit

me you and father have teddies !
Reply:no tree

we do family stuff instead and give gifts year round
Reply:We have an angel on top of our tree... and all of our ornaments are pretty much sentimental value... we have some commemorating years, or for everyone in our family
Reply:My parents tree has an Angel; and is decorated with ornaments from over 48 years from various times of our lives. (Actually Mom decides which are on or off.)

When I had a family, the tree we started had an Angel, and family significant ornaments - which I kept after she left. My son made a few. (She has the tree, and lights, etc.) I still but the Peanut Hallmark ornaments.

Peace.
Reply:A model of the Cinderella castle. I put some of the tree lights inside and looks great at night.

Believe me is true.
Reply:I have an Angel at the top of my tree... my ornaments are really very similar to yours, bought to commemorate each year, and some are homemade.
Reply:We're going to put up a star on our New Year tree :D
Reply:we have an angel with white wings,a white (and gold trimmings) dress and she's holding a wreath with "Jesus" written on it.

Bless you and goodnight
Reply:An angel of the Lord. God Bless You!
Reply:I have a nice star on the top. My son made it in his sunday school. Represents a start what guided the 3 kings from the east.
Reply:We always have an angel on top. Whether it is our wooden angel or a nice galss one (depending on how tall it is) and our ornaments do have sentimental value, not so much to me but my parents.
Reply:A Grolsch bottle
Reply:Hey, your topper sounds like what's topping our tree! It's a small tree so the colored balls are small and the ornaments very tiny and are Yule toys - rocking horses, stockings, candy canes, stars, etc.

We get a new ornament each year and I get a new nutcracker. Haven't a clue why I like them - maybe it's that military thing coming out.

Cheers!

Happy Holidays!

Hugs to you!!!
Reply:I have a lighted star on the top of my tree. The decorations are new because I wasn't able to dig in the (over full basement) for my older, more meningful ones. The tree is only 4 feet tall so I only got a few. I'll give it away after Christmas. But, for now it's pretty and the grandkids like it. I have a nativity set with the baby Jesus, the animals, kings, Mary, and Joesph and angels. My house is full of Christian things all year long so I don't have to do too much for the Christian and most important part of the season. I know the reason for the season and I celebrate all year long for that. I too wish everyone a very Merry Christmas or if you get offended---------Happy Holidays
Reply:We put up this big gold star that's shiny and lights up in alternating colors of the rainbow. XD

Honestly, this year I asked my mom if we could get this modest ornament, an angel, to put on top (I'm a bit odd for a Pagan, aren't I?) but she rolled her eyes and stuck with the star. : )
Reply:Pepperoni and mushrooms. Yum!
Reply:Wow. Pretty close to yours. Ours is a "teddy bear angel" - dressed in white with white wings.

No...his name is not "Mohammad"

Looking for a christmas cartoon in the 80's on British tv with the song 'God rest ye merry gentlemen'.

It was about a short short man with a dog. And he put on socks at the start of the cartoon and sort of tumbled backwards. I think it didn't have actual voices- just music over the top maybe. Then there is this other character who is very tall who is dressed as Santa outside a department store and pretending to collect for charity but he is actually a thief and is stealing from people who give him money. They have a bell ringing contest- loudest one. Then the short mans dog growls at tall guy who gets his foot caught in the pot and can be seen in the distance while the shot is focused on the short man. It definetly has the song 'God rest ye merry gentleman' in it. At the end they all have a get together and the thief gives a teddy to a kid. For some reason I recall a red chest of drawers. I remember this cartoon every christmas and always wish i could remember what it was so i could watch it again!!! or buy it even!

Thanks if anyone knows of what im talking about!!!

Looking for a christmas cartoon in the 80's on British tv with the song 'God rest ye merry gentlemen'.
I'm pretty positive that what you've described is called "Ziggy's Gift." This animated Christmas special is based upon the newspaper comic strop "Ziggy" by Tom Wilson. There is a DVD available on Amazon.com (see link provided below), although it is in the NTSC format. I hope this information helps you in your search, and that you are able to enjoy watching this charming cartoon once again this Christmas!

Need help writing Christmas Carol lyrics??

Well, I have to think of a christmas song and rewrite the lyrics so that it has to do with the golden ages (ex. Islam, Tang and Song dynasty, Byzantine Empire, and gupta empire"

My song i chose was "Jingle Bell rock"

Im totally stuck, so i was wondering if u could show me some tips or help get me started

THankes!

Need help writing Christmas Carol lyrics??
wow...i had to rewrite a christmas carol for english class...we were reading the book a christmas carol, and had to write it in the perspective of Scrooge...i did All I Want For Christmas is My Two Front Teeth- and I changed it to All I Want For Christmas is a pile of mon-ey.

do something like that, pick a song that would match the perspective of the people from the golden age

Do we need to update our Christmas Carol "Classics" with a few more contemporary hits?

Don't get me wrong. I love the old standards. But when I go to the mall or hear the piped in Christmas music, I just wonder "What would it take to get a newer musical creation ORDAINED as a 'classic' so it would not be the same old collection of songs each year?"

I'm not saying let's ditch the classics. I'm asking what NEW songs created and popularized over say, the last big revolution in music -- which I count as the innovation of Rock-N-Roll -- should we start including into our list of STANDARD Christmas songs.

And no, I'm not saying they should all be Rock-N-Roll. They can be any genre..just something a little more current than 200 years old, how 'bout, eh?

I get jazzed when I hear one of my favorites play -- "Jingle Bell Rock". Bouncey and cute. I play it on the piano and it's a crowd pleaser.

I propose "Little Saint Nick" by the Beach Boys. REAL cute song. Here's a link to the lyrics:

http://www.musicsonglyrics.com/B/beachbo...

Do we need to update our Christmas Carol "Classics" with a few more contemporary hits?
I agree with you I am open to adding some more contemporary "classics" however under no circumstances should the Beach Boys even be allowed to do Christmas songs! lol Maybe Breath of Heaven by Jessica Simpson
Reply:No, I don't think so. The Beach Boys and Brenda Lee are about 30 years old. My Mother complains too. However, what she complained about were the old songs and the new song was White Christmas by Bing Crosby.
Reply:Fairytale of New York by The Pogues and Kirsty McColl, if it's not already recognised as a classic, it will be!

How did the Star on top of the Christmas Tradition Start?

This is what I heard:

One Christmas 5 of Santa's elfs got sick, 2 of the reindeer were giving birth, 2 jumped the fence and he couldn't find them, then Mrs. Claus told Santa that her mother was coming for a visit, then one of the floor board broke through on the sleigh. FRUSTRATED, Santa then stormed into the house to have some cider and a shot of rum but then discovered the elves drank the cider and hid the rum...just then the door bell rang and a very irritated Santa marched to the door and yanked it open....and there stood an angel with a grat big Christmas tree and the angle said: Merry Christmas Santa..isn't it a beautiful DAY!!! I have this big tree for you....where would you like me to stick it????

that's what I heard.....what about you?

How did the Star on top of the Christmas Tradition Start?
Back in thee 16th century, Martin Luther was the first one to bring a pine tree inside the house. He was walking home from a Christmas service when he noticed the stars shining through the evergreens. He cut it down and decorated it with candles, because they reminded him of the stars shining through the branches. There is a very high probability that the Star on top of the tree came from this.
Reply:dont know♫♥
Reply:Unfortunately I do not know the story to correctly inform you, but I have some really good thoughts concerning this... alright? It is quite good, practical, and spiritually correct to place a star on the tree. There was a star shown in the heavens which lead the magi to where they would exactly locate Jesus. This star was brighter than the NOON DAY SUN! It lead them through their long journey to find the Christ Child. Jesus is the DAYSTAR, the true daystar which is to arise in the hearts of those called by His name. The daystar still shines in the hearts of those who are in Christ, and thankfully the star can shine for those looking to find Him. That, in my mind, is the most or more important reason... hence it is of faith. I hope this helps. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Reply:Since Christians celebrate Christmas, and since the 'wise men' followed a star to Bethlehem, I suppose the star on top of the tree is symbolic of the star they followed. God bless, and merry Christmas.
Reply:The North Star was also considered sacred, since all other stars in the sky revolved around its fixed point. They associated this "Pole Star" with the World Tree and the central axis of the universe. The top of the World Tree touched the North Star, and the spirit of the shaman would climb the metaphorical tree, thereby passing into the realm of the gods. This is the true meaning of the star on top of the modern Christmas tree, and also the reason that the super-shaman Santa makes his home at the North Pole.

I told the Salvation Army bell ringer to "F" off at the mall. Why do they harass us?

It was cold outside, I was waiting for shuttle to the parking garage. i stood inside the doors to the mall to stay warm and that guy with his bell asked me for a donation. I told him no. He asked why not. I told him to mind his own business using most of the cuss words I could think of.

Why do they hound us at the mall during Christmas time. I don't give them anything all year, why do they think I'll change one day when I go to the mall?

I told the Salvation Army bell ringer to "F" off at the mall. Why do they harass us?
I know it, damn hippies
Reply:I cannot believe what I am reading! Are you aware of what all the Salvation Army does all year when your not standing in the doors of the mall staying warm? First of all they don't stand in the doors tring to stay warm, no they stand out in the cold and are volunteering their time to make someone, who is not as spoiled as you, a nice christmas. Where were you when they were down in New Orleans after Katrina? What would you do if you got into a situation, and couldn't help yourself or your family? What would you do if you lost everything you had and no one was there to try to raise money ( quarters and nickels they collect) to try to help you? I know your thinking that I don't know what I'm talking about, but if you seriously think nothing like that could happen to you, then you might be in for a rude awakening! Hound you, no they are just tring to help someone who at the moment cannot help themselves. Greed is considered a deadly sin and I would love to see you go on judgement day and ask your maker the same question that you just asked us! If you don't give any money to them all year and you don't feel like you could drop a few nickels or dimes to help out, then instead of spending it all at the mall on things you could live without, maybe you should invest it in something that you really need- a new attitude!
Reply:Well that's a manly thing to do---yeah right. First of all, cursing is a sign of a low-class person, not a gentleman. Second, do you not realize that you could easily lose everything you have as well? There are natural disasters, electrical fires, robberies, identity theft, etc. that could destroy the life you currently have. No matter what you have, your ownage could be imminent and you may not even know it!

And so what if the bells are "annoying?" They sure as heck got your attention--like that Head On commercial that you can't get out of your head. It WORKS.

It was funny in that Bob Rivers song, but not in reality.
Reply:Instead of cussing him out why didn't you say "I didn't give all year, why should I give now?
Reply:Are you for real?

I sincerely doubt that the guy asked you, "Why not?"

If this happened at all, and if that really was your response... I doubt that it has anything to do with the Salvation Army. I think it had a lot more to do with you being a ****.
Reply:You are a liar. All they do is ring their bells. They don't actively solicit donations.

If you are offended, stay at home.
Reply:What!?! All they do is ring a bell!!!! If he asks if why you don't give him money, don't curse him. Just say you don't have any cash or loose change on you right now.
Reply:That is disgusting that you cussed at someone that volunteered to standout in the cold all day everyday to help needy people you should be ashamed. And during the holiday season too, you need some serious help. That really sickens me.
Reply:you worthless turd. Bell ringers are volunteers who are trying to make the season a little brighter for many of the down trodden.
Reply:Well they are doing it for a good coarse, but he shouldn't of been that persistent.
Reply:Why didn't you just throw your drink at them like you did to the poor woman in the theatre where you were smoking illegally?

I am beginning to think you should be the poster child favouring retroactive abortions.
Reply:I always donate something, whether it's loose change in my pocket or in the bottom of my purse or a dollar bill left in my hand still from the change I got back from my purchase. I don't give huge donations, just what little bit I have, it makes me feel good that I helped out.

I have never encountered someone that acted mean or aggravating when it comes to the Salvation Army lil red bell ringer. Maybe you were having a bad day perhaps?
Reply:I agree with your premise, if not your tactics.

Those bells alone are enough to drive a person insane, they could not pay me enough to sit there all day and ring that incessantly obnoxious bell.

And the "Salvation Army" itself I find offensive......... helping a bunch of hopeless drunks and druggies get clean for a minute so they can go back to the bottle or needle with a fresh start, Disgusting waste of money, when there are starving innocent children we could be helping instead. I would be MUCH more likely to drop some bills into a kettle held by a SILENT skinny child.
Reply:because sombody has to care for those in need. Obviously you dont.

Some people are genorous and do donate when people are there. Those people asking for donations do have an important purpose.

Next time think about how you would like it if you were trying to help someone by collecting donations and an ignorant person like you came up and did what you did.

You should be ashamed of yourself
Reply:Well...Mr. Merry Christmas, they aren't suppose to ask for money, but I guess some do, they are just trying to raise money for the unfortunates...... Lighten up!!!!!!
Reply:Keeping warm is going to be the least of your worries.
Reply:Nice, Sunshine..cussing out the Salvation Army guy. While he should have not pestered you reacted in a totally classless way and made your self look bad. Next time if someone does this tell them politely " I do not want to donate at this time."
Reply:Well you shouldve been the better person and not cursed him out because now you look like the jackass....i understand that they do get annoying but is it that hard to give them like a dime to quiet them down? I'm sure it was out of line for him to ask why not but you didnt have to go crazy on him...
Reply:They utilize the holiday season because they figure that people are more generous, and are willing to give. I understand your frustration, but keep in mind the people less fortunate the Salvation Army is helping. Next time, you could just walk away.

Searching for Christmas Town in United States?

I'm looking for the name of a small city in the United States that was once mentioned in a TV listings travel feature page. It was supposedly a great "christmas town", and had some popular toy store that was a must see if visited. I know these descriptions are very vague but I don't remember the name of city and am hoping that someone may know which city I'm describing. I do remember that the name of the city was a bit lengthy as well....If anyone can list some christmasy towns in the states that they're aware of maybe it'll ring a bell.

Searching for Christmas Town in United States?
I know what you are talking about. It is Frankenmuth, MI.
Reply:well, there is a place called "santa claus" in Indiana. Holiday World is located there and a great place to visit.
Reply:New Bethlehem, PA. The stores are always decorated for Christmas. There is a loud speaker system in the town that plays Christmas music along the main shopping district. Not much else there.
Reply:Piegeon Forge/Gatlinburg, TN in the Smokey Mountains is a great place to visit during the Christmas season. Both towns are "tourist" towns so they have tons of shopping, hotels, craft places, entertainment venues and lots of good places to eat.

During the Christmas season they decorate the towns with tons of lights. Very nice time of year to visit.

Last Christmas

10 points to whomever has my favorite renditions

What are the best renditions of these Christmas songs?
I am sorry, but I really don't know. You see, I lost my hearing in 1995 while serving in the Navy.

But I do have a GREAT recommendation. One of my favorite CDs, was titled:

Handle's Messiah: A Soulful Celebration

Think about stars like Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, Vanessa Williams, Ray Charles, and dozens more revamping Handel's Massiah to contemporary styles. BLEW ME AWAY! I highly recommend it!

Help finding a christmas cd?

I don't know the artist or title. All of the songs on the cd were by the same group with female vocals, probably more than one vocalist. There were secular and holy songs, including "deck the halls" and had a distinct sound, something a bit more modern. All I can remember was in the "fa la la" part of "deck the halls" the singer(s) paused before the last "la".

Does this ring a bell for anyone? Any leads on groups with only female vocals doing more modern-sounding christmas music?

Help finding a christmas cd?
is it the Taylor Swift "Sounds of the Season" cd?
Reply:Well, Britney, beyonce and numerous country stars like Faith Hill and Leanne Rhimes have all done christmas albums.

I would check amazon and just search under christmas

There is a cow-bell shaped thing that says 'Pb' on it (my dad says Pb stands for Led). then, beside it there is a star. do u have any idea of what it is????

Christmas song riddle 4 u....?
We Three Kings of Orient Are (Star of Wonder)

I wonder what that 1st symbol means ;)
Reply:Lead(Led) by a star
Reply:silver bells?

isn't pb the element symbol for silver?
Reply:porks better then makin cow got to heaven an become star
Reply:could it be we three kings -you know something about a star that led thee kings from afar. + i think the scientific sign for silver is pb and one of the kings brought silver.
Reply:Not sure at this point, but can help.

Pb is lead, but I'm guessing the cowbell shape is a weight.

trying to think what that symbolizes: wait, heavy, ton ... that would go with a star.

Somebody help.
Reply:err cud u send me the link so i can look at the picture?

Christmas poem , no mention of jesus.?

The man in the shop said it came from head office,

A directive concerning their window display,

No Joseph, no Mary, no wise men or shepherds

And there'd be not a mention of Jesus today.

Such Christian devices could well be offensive

To those with beliefs of conflicting designs,

So I walked down the street with its jingle-bell jangles

And pondered these shallow and timorous times.

So long on correctness, so short on conviction,

We creep on our haunches and bend with the breeze

With chameleon talents adapting our colours

According to those we're desirous to please.

We're ashamed of our history, ashamed of our battles,

Ashamed of the victories old soldiers relate,

And now we're ashamed of a Bethlehem stable

Where self-righteous sentries are guarding the gate.

I was born in a country of Christian tradition,

I was taught to distinguish the right from the wrong,

It gave me a purpose and pathway to follow

Embraced in expressions of pageant and song.

Inherent within was the meaning of Christmas,

The birth of a Saviour, the hope he would bring,

And I basked as a child in that promised assurance

As we joined with our mothers and fathers to sing.

Our worship owed nothing to dictates or dogma

Nor denial to others their calling or creed

But ours was the way of ancestral tradition,

Accepted, acknowledged, by custom agreed.

Now they call it divisive and crudely symbolic

While filling their windows with baubles and snow,

They issue directives like edicts from Herod

That Joseph and Mary and Jesus must go.

In the world they envisage, the manger lies empty.

No angels will gather, no wise men will call.

And we'll not run the risk of offending our neighbours

For there'll not be a mention of Jesus at all.

Christmas poem , no mention of jesus.?
its strange that it wouldnt mention Jesus because i thought that is what Christmas is all about.

at least, it used to be. its got so commercial that people seem to forget the real meaning!!

starred!!
Reply:Nothing more needs to be said.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!
Reply:Jesus loves you!
Reply:See so many find Jesus offensive. I personally find it offensive to not be able to have my views about Jesus especially at Christmas. I KNOW that Christmas is all about when Jesus was born and NOT all about Santa and decorations. Jesus is my first thought when it comes to Christmas and I am not ashamed to say it. I don't tell others what they can celebrate or how to celebrate anything, and I feel my rights have been taken away by them telling me what I am aloud to say, celebrate or when I can pray.
Reply:So true.

The PC brigade are killing every British tradition, one by one, to appease our foreign "guests".
Reply:Well that is correct.

JESUS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!
Reply:Have you ever heard of Michaelmas.....I heard it somewhere before.

I loved christmas up until I was 5-6 ish. It used to be all about Jesus and the love he spread. These days...its so commercial, though I wouldn't know much cause I haven't had a christmas for about 12 years now......its because of him, Just sad....?
Reply:I find it upsetting. How are people to learn about or appreciate Jesus if this time of year is a commercial time, and not a celebration of Jesus? I mean, JESUS is in the name of the holiday. Was thinking about this earlier while looking at a list of Christmas songs on a cd I've got....
Reply:It's a shame what has happened to the Christmas spirit over the years, isn't it? When will Christians stand up and fight!?

Christmas tree ornament project?

I am looking for a project for my daughters and I to do together for our christmas tree. I did this project when I was in 4th grade, but that was many moons ago and I have forgotten exactly how it is done. It required painting a mini clay pot white, adding a decoration from napkins, sprinkling with glitter, and adding a bead inside for the bell. Does anyone know how to do this project? Thanxs in advance to all that can help!

Christmas tree ornament project?
Here is a slight variation (scroll down almost to the bottom to "Fun Clay Pots")

This site may also have some other ideas you might like to do with your girls!

or try: http://www.craftbits.com/viewProject.do?...

And while you're at it with clay pots, there are so many more ornaments you can do!

Sorry, I realize this almost seems like a Christmas commercial - giving you SO much more than you wanted, but when I see something I think is cute, I can't help but share! I'll stop now. You have a computer, you don't need me for all of this. =)
Reply:Your memory is very good. You basically know how to do it. I cut a piece of foam and insert to cover the hole in the pot and glue it inside. Paint the pot white and allow to dry.Remove only the TOP decorative layer from the napkin.Coat the pot with Modge Podge and apply the napkin, smoothing it on. Apply a coat of the Modge Podge over the napkin and sprinkle it with Diamond Dust ( it is coarser then glitter, and you can see the pattern through it ). Cut a length of thin ribbon at least 2 1/2 the length you'll need to attach the bell and hang the pot.Thread the bell to the center of the ribbon and knot in position. Measure how low you want to suspend the bell, and tie a double knot here.Take a piece of wire, make a small loop and knot the ends of the ribbon to it. Push this through the foam, covering the hole in the pot. Knot at the top of the pot, figure out how big a loop you need to suspend it on the tree, and make a knot at this position.NOTE: Once you pull the ribbon through the top of the pot, remove the wire.
Reply:Sign up for BHG.com (Better Homes and Gardens) and they would probably have those directions in their 100 days before Christmas site (Free). My granddaughter (10 yrs old) and I (my friends, also) have decided that we would make Cinnamon Ornaments and dry apples to make wreaths and swags, hanging these cinnamon ornaments on them so as to make it smell like Christmas. Add glitter for sparkle and when you're through, store them all in an air-tight bag for the next year.

Christmas Countdown with a TREAT at the end?

Looking for a pattern for a Christmas Countdown for my children that I had when I was younger made by my aunt...it had LIFESAVERS tied to them and at the end of the countdown there was a bell along with a poem to read.

Reply:sorry I can't help you but I have seen this done with paper chains.

Dance for christmas?

im planning to do a dance for christmas to put on a show for my family. The two songs i like best are jingle bell rock and little st.nick. what songs, dance steps, costume,(im doing it with my cousin and i am in charge of buyng the music and comeing up with the steps and she has to get the costumes.) thanks to all whoo answer.

Dance for christmas?
Hey, I think that's a good idea. I would do it to jingle bell rock. Find a really jazzy version and make a jazz/kick routine to it. If you've ever seen Deck the Halls, I would look for a costume like the one the girls wear in that. It is kind of a "Santa Claus" mini-dress. Also, keep the moves simple, your family will be more impressed with a cute dance and a few good tricks than something that is thrown together. If you need any choreography ideas, I'd love to help. Good luck!
Reply:believe from Polar express
