Why do people that ring the bells in a Christmas cantata wear gloves?

Skin oil is naturally acidic...and the bells are made of brass, which is soft, and easily etched by even the weakest acid.

It's posible to touch the bells and leave permanent fingerprints, etched right into the surface!

Besides, the white gloves look spiffy.

Why do people that ring the bells in a Christmas cantata wear gloves?
Because it is cold outside
Reply:To keep the bells from getting tarnished from the oil on their hands and to be able to hang on to the bells
Reply:Its frrrrrreazing.
